This year’s official start-up of the new academic year is held in Porsgrunn. The picture shows students crowding at the festival-like opening in 2011.

The official opening ceremony of the new academic year at Telemark University College alternate each year between our campuses in Porsgrunn, Bø and Notodden. This year the official ceremony is held in Porsgrunn. There will however be local ceremonies for students at all the campuses.

Festival mood featuring Oslo Ess

Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Sudies, Marianne Hedlund and Rector Kristian Bogen will both adress the new students, as will Ann-Kristian Stubberød, president of the Student Organisation in Telemark (SOT) and Juli Sollie Hamre, president of Grenland Student Association.

In Porsgrunn, the students have booked the popular Oslo Ess band to play during the ceremony.

Says Julie Hamre, the SIG president: "Oslo Ess is one of the great, upcoming Norwegian bands and we are extremely happy to have them here for the opening of the academic year."

Throughout the Start-up Week there will be concerts, quizes, stand up shows, and canooing on the river, and the SIG-president hopes the students will crowd to participate in these activities.

There will also be special Start-up program in Bø and Notodden.
