English Studies, 1 year programme

English Studies, 1-year programme provides students with a foundation in British and American literature and culture. It also provides students with an understanding of English grammar, phonetics and the oral use of the language.
The programme emphasises the use of the discipline in teaching and other contexts, and fulfils the requirements for the 4th year of the General Teacher Education programme.
Teaching and learning methods include lectures, seminars, written and oral project work and submissions.
The programme includes an obligatory two-week study trip to the Norwegian Study Centre in York, England. The University College cooperates with other university colleges and universities with regard to the Norwegian Study centre.
The programme will provide students with very good English skills, which are becoming more in demand at workplaces.
Successful candidates will be qualified to teach English in primary and secondary schools; however, in order to use this qualification in schools, students should also have completed a teacher-training programme.
The one-year programme in English Studies may form part of the Bachelor’s degree in Literature and Language; it can also be included as part of other Bachelor’s degrees.
