With a deregulated marked, renewable energy produced locally with large variations in production rate, and a need to use hydropower as "balance power", the challenges in control and optimization of hydropower production is increasing.

Application Areas
Advanced control of the Svartisen plant The project involves studying the Svartisen power plant through simulation using LVTrans/LabVIEW, finding a linear model for the system, and using the linear model for design and comparison of classical and advanced control strategies.
