Allocation of credits

Telemark University College uses the European ECTS-standard. In the ECTS-standard a one-year full time programme will have 60 ECTS-credits. A three-year bachelor degree will have 180 ECTS-credits. A two-year master degree will have 120 ECTS-credits.

Allocation of credits

Each programme is composed of several individual course units. Each of these course units will have a certain number of credits assigned to it. The number of ECTS-credits assigned to each course will be decided before the start of the programme.

ECTS-credits is determined by the academic staff responsible for each programme. They will estimate how much time an average student will have to spend to achieve the goals set out in the learning outcomes for each course unit. A full-time programme will usually amount to 1500-1800 hours per year. That means that one credit will usually stand for 25-30 hours of work. Lectures, individual effort and group work that is necessary to achieve the desired learning outcomes for an average student, should all be taken into account when estimating the total student workload.

All students are asked to evaluate each course unit after completion. In the evaluation of courses, students are among other things asked to assess their actual workload related to the course.

Learning outcomes

All degree programmes should have a description of the learning outcomes for the programme. The learning outcomes for the programmes will be described in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence.
