The general component in the 1st year of study serves as preparation and a prerequisite for completion of the Master’s thesis.

The aesthetic creative area provides experience with a variety of design processes. It also includes art theory, which provides a perspective on, and cultural frameworks for, the creative activities of the individual student and of others.

The pedagogical and didactics area includes basic didactic questions, curriculum issues and the role of the teacher within the subject field.

The scientific theory and methodology area includes key science-theoretical and methodological issues, and involves theoretical studies and direct participation in a group project.

The specialised component will be carried out in the 2nd year of study, and comprises the Master’s thesis. The Master’s thesis is a research project which integrates creative processes, subject theory and didactics. Students will formulate a question, produce creative work and work on their thesis. When writing the thesis, they will use research and development methodology, and the thesis should include discussion of teaching / communication issues.

Career opportunities/Further studies

The programme is aimed at teaching in day nurseries, primary and secondary schools, folk high schools, university colleges and work in advisory services within the field of design and arts mediation. It provides qualification for research and development work and may provide the basis for beginning PhD studies, in addition to stimulating the individual student’s creative abilities.
