This is a 3-year Master’s programme with creative and practical aspects, subject theory and didactics. The programme has a systematic and research-based approach to the subject field. It consists of a general component and a specialised component which includes the writing of a thesis.

The general component, which is completed in the first year and a half, provides the preparation, and is a prerequisite for, the completion of the Master’s thesis.

Courses:
Aesthetics and Creativity (30 ECTS)
Pedagogy and Didactics (12 ECTS)
Scientific Theory and Method (18 ECTS)

The specialised component will be completed in the next year and a half and covers:

Aesthetics and Creativity provide experience with a variety of creative processes. It also comprises arts theory, which provides perspective and a cultural framework for the student’s own work, as well as enabling the student to evaluate the creative work of others. Pedagogy and Didactics concerns basic aspects of didactics, curriculum issues and the role of the teacher within the field of study. Scientific Theory and Method deals with the main aspects of this area of study. The programme includes theoretical study and involvement in a group project. The Master’s thesis is a research exercise which students complete individually, under supervision. Students formulate a question, produce creative work and work on a thesis. Research and development methods are used, and the thesis should include a question from the field of teaching.

Teaching and learning methods:

Individual study, study in groups, lectures, workshop, seminars and excursions. Teaching emphasises both practical and theoretical approaches. Students should be capable of working independently and systematically.

Career opportunities/Further studies

The programme is aimed at teaching in day nurseries, primary and secondary schools, folk high schools, university colleges and work in advisory services within the fields of design and arts mediation. It provides qualification for research and development work and may provide a basis for admission to doctoral studies, in addition to stimulating the individual’s creative abilities.
