Humanities Subjects

The humanities are academic disciplines that are concerned with the ‘science of the human’. Common to the humanities is that they try to say something about how people act, think and express themselves in the present day and in the past.

The study programme includes the following courses:

• History
• History of Ideas
• English Literature and Language
• Norwegian Literature and Language
• Spanish and Latin American Language and Culture
• Author Studies
• Examen Philosophicum, Examen Facultatum and Linguistics

Students enrolled on the Bachelor’s study programme in Humanities Subjects may choose between three different specialization courses:

• English Literature and Language
• Norwegian Literature and Language
• History

Each course comprises 80 ECTS credits of the Bachelor’s study programme. The rest of the study programme (100 ECTS credits) consists of compulsory and elective courses.
In addition to the specialization courses chosen by the student, he / she may take a one-year study programme in another subject as part of their Bachelor’s degree. We offer one-year study programmes in the following courses:

• English Literature and Language
• History
• History of Ideas
• Norwegian Literature and Language
• Spanish and Latin American Language and Culture

 
Career opportunities/Further studies

The study programme provides a professional foundation for teaching in lower secondary schools (Years 8-10) and upper secondary schools.

Together with PPU (1-year Certificate in Education), the study programme provides adjunct teacher competence for teaching in schools.

The specialization course in History together with the one-year study programme in History of Ideas provides professional competence for teaching the subject ‘History and Philosophy’ in upper secondary schools.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities Subjects students will be able to seek work in publishing and media, or work with information services and international cooperation.

With studies in language, literature and culture (English, Norwegian, Spanish) students will be qualified to work in tourism-related fields.

The study programme qualifies students for admission to the MA in Cultural Studies
