MA Cultural Studies, master
The aim of the Master’s degree programme is to enable students to acquire an understanding of culture as expressed through the various academic traditions within the humanities and interpretive social sciences. Along with acquiring insight into the relevant fundamental theory, students will study individual principal academic traditions in detail. They will also learn to use this insight through studying appropriate topics in depth.
Content:
This Master’s degree programme in Cultural Studies combines the following subject perspectives, which run throughout the whole programme:
- General cultural-theoretical perspective
- Historical perspective
- Aesthetic and literary perspective
- Interpretative social-sciences / cultural-sociological perspective
Particular emphasis will be placed to students working critically and independently. Students can choose between two different subject areas: Cultural Analysis or Cultural Administration.
10-year jubilee with seminar
The Master’s study programme in Cultural Studies will celebrate its 10-year jubilee in autumn 2009. In this context, the academic community wish to invite both old and new students to a stimulating seminar on cultural studies, which will include lectures by experts in the field from Scandinavia.
Successful candidates will be qualified to work in the media and culture sector (for example, editorial offices of cultural publications, publishing and various cultural organisations), as well as in cultural departments in municipalities and counties; and in other sectors that require broad and comprehensive competence. The Master’s degree programme will also provide teaching competence in some humanities subjects and social sciences subjects. A Master’s degree candidate who completes a study programme in Post-Graduate Education will be qualified to work as a senior teacher in secondary schools.
