Computer Science and Industrial Automation, Y-VEI (for applicants with certificate of completed apprenticeship)

If you possess a trade-school education and a trade certificate you may now study to become an engineer in 3 years at Telemark University College:

In autumn 2002, Telemark University College began offering a new 3-year BSc in Engineering programme for those who have technical college qualifications in general engineering or the automation + craft certificate. The previous requirement of 2 years of technical college, a 1-year preparatory course, or a 3-semester course with summer school is no longer necessary. The successful completion of technical courses from upper secondary schools is now sufficient. Telemark University College is the institution in Norway with the longest experience in offering such a programme.

This is a professional and pedagogical programme adapted to the student’s background. The programme compensates for inadequate formal education in mathematics, physics, Norwegian and English by bypassing some of the basic engineering subjects and some elective courses. Students follow a common teaching plan during the first year. From the second year, students are offered a choice between electronics, electric power technology or computer science and automation. In general engineering subjects the Y-VEI students are integrated with those students who have a general studies background.

Career opportunities/Further studies

Qualified engineers may seek positions within system engineering, programming, industrial computing technology, computer networks and robot technology.
