Gas and Energy Technology, Y-VEI (for applicants with certificate of completed apprenticeship)

Content:
The study programme will provide a basic introduction to the fields of general and process chemistry, before the students proceed to gas and energy technology. The programme will provide broad background in the field of gas technology and the use of gas in energy production and as a raw material for industry. The problem concerning environmentally hazardous emissions from natural gas combustion (including C02 treatment) will be examined. Technical safety and risk analysis in the handling of natural gas will be focused on. The programme will include laboratory exercises in the use of industrial standard software for simulation. Students may specialise in economics and management.

Career opportunities/Further studies

As a chemical engineer in gas and energy technology, you will be able to work with process development, data control and product development in process industries, and the energy and offshore industry. Other potential employment opportunities may be found in various control organs, and within areas such as working conditions, environmental conservation both offshore, and on the mainland in the public and private sectors. Students may seek admission to the Master’s degree programmes Energy and Environmental Technology or Process Technology (the civil engineering programme) at Telemark University College, or Master’s programmes in technology at other university colleges and universities in Norway or abroad
