Mechanical Engineering, Y-VEI (for applicants with certificate of completed apprenticeship)

Subject area: Mechanical Engineering

If you possess a trade-school education and a trade certificate you may now study to become an engineer in 3 years at Telemark University College:

Telemark University offer Y-VEI study programmes within all the branches of engineering. If you have a trade certificate in mechanical engineering subjects, you may now study to become a mechanical engineer within 3 years.

This is a new professional and pedagogically adapted programme where we build upon the student’s background. Insufficient theoretical background in mathematics, physics, Norwegian and English will be compensated for without requiring additional study time, because some of the basic mechanical engineering subjects and some elective courses have been removed from the programme. In these courses, the Y-VEI students will be integrated with those students who have previously studied general subjects.

Content:

The study programme in mechanical engineering provides a rounded education with options for specialisation in construction technology or process technology. Central subjects are mechanics, machine parts, mechanical drafting with 3-D modelling, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. For calculations and construction, we will use modern methods using computer-technology. Students may also specialise in ICT or Economics and Management.

Career opportunities/Further studies

The mechanical engineer is characterised by an ability to work in many fields. Among possible fields of employment, one might mention design and construction in mechanical enterprises and process industries, operations, maintenance, safety- and product-quality work and sales, purchasing and marketing. Upon graduation, students may seek admission to the civil engineering Master’s-degree programmes, Energy and Environmental Technology or Process Technology at Telemark University College or Master’s programmes at other colleges and universities in Norway or abroad.
