Preparatory Course for Engineering

This is a preparatory course for students who have a trade school educational background and work experience, but who do not meet the academic requirements for applying for engineering studies. There is no specialisation – instead, students choose their area of specialisation when they apply for engineering studies. The course does not fulfil general admission requirements.

Content:

The course includes the following subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry – these subjects provide background for engineering studies, while Norwegian, English and social studies have a more practical perspective than the equivalent subjects in general studies at the upper secondary school. The course requires both hard work and motivation.

Teaching and learning methods:

The teaching in scientific subjects is a combination of lectures and exercises in small groups. The other subjects are mainly based on classroom instruction. Most subjects have a duration of two semesters. All of the subjects are graded. Marks are based on interim tests, submissions, laboratory reports and final examinations.

Career opportunities/Further studies

The course fulfils the admissions requirements for applying to engineering programmes and maritime programmes at university colleges in Norway.
