Nursing
Completion of the Nursing study programme qualifies the student for certification as a registered nurse. The study programme will qualify students to work with individuals and groups in society who are in need of care, nursing or treatment relating to failing health or illness.
Students will develop into professionals with thorough knowledge, clear attitudes and advanced skills in their interaction with patients and their families.
The study programme is comprised of four major course units:
- Nursing’s Professional and Scientific Foundation
- The Nursing Profession and Professional Foundation
- Medical and Natural Science Topics
- Social Sciences Topics
At Telemark University College the study programme in Nursing focuses on basic nursing and health promotion and prevention in the first year of study; nursing in relation to the acute and critically ill in the second year of study; and nursing in the municipal health services, the mentally ill and international health issues in the third year. Half of the study time is comprised of practical training.
Qualified nurses can obtain positions in all sections of the health sector. Suitable employment may also be found with the local health services, specialist health services, company health services, in industry, at private institutions and in international aid work.
Fields of work include health promotion, prevention, treatment, pain relief, administration and research. The Bachelor’s degree programme in Nursing provides the necessary requirements for admission to post-Bachelor’s degree studies.
Telemark University College offers further post graduate programmes in mental health work; aging and the care of the elderly; multicultural work; and public health nursing. The study programme also provides the basis for Master’s degree studies. Telemark University College offers a Master’s degree in Multicultural Preventative Care with Children and Adolescents.
