BA Subject Teacher: Physical Education
The practical subjects cover ball skills, skiing, skating, snow boarding, athletics, climbing and orienteering, including outdoor activities, dance and play. In the theoretical subjects motor skills and the relation between physical activity and health, culture and society are studied. In this context physiology, anatomy, physical training, sports history, sports sociology and sports psychology are also studied. The professional aspect of the programme is focused on in the second and third years with an emphasis on pedagogy and teaching practice in schools.
Students who have already completed a one-year programme in Sports Studies may apply to join the programme in the second year.
The programme qualifies the candidate to teach in primary and secondary schools and in folk high schools. Graduates are also qualified for positions as physical education instructors or in administrative positions in the public and private sectors. The programme also provides a basis for further study. For instance, students may wish to acquire an MA Physical Education, Sport and Outdoor Life Studies at Telemark University College. Combined with a Master’s degree, this 3-year Subject Teacher in Physical Education qualifies successful candidates for positions as senior teachers.
