Outdoor life, Culture and Ecophilosophy

The programme provides students with insight into Norwegian culture and the foundation to reflect upon outdoor life and the different views of nature in Norway; students will also be given the opportunity to compare this to their own countries. Outdoor teaching will be given in the form of tours and solo outings.

Outdoor Life, Culture and Ecophilosophy is taught in the autumn semester. If you want to study for a full academic year, you can combine it with spring semester programme Nordic skiing and outdoor life.

The study programme will provide students with practical skills, knowledge, attitudes and experiences related to outdoor activities, culture and nature. Students will acquire skills in outdoor life in a variety of natural environments, and theoretical knowledge about outdoor life as a cultural and historical phenomenon.

The programme will be taught in English and is aimed at foreign students. Norwegian students should take the programme Outdoor Life, Culture & Nature Guiding I instead.

Living Expenses
The Norwegian authorities have estimated that living expenses for a foreign student living in Norway to be about NOK 8500 per month. This covers room and board, pocket money, books and other necessities. However, there may be extras such as travelling expenses and leisure activities etc. Students will also incur extra costs when going on hikes and attending seminars at Telemark University College (for instance, this may include bus fares, overnight accommodation, etc.). An approximately total for this expenses are NOK 1500.

Students are expected to bring their own personal equipment, such as skis, boots, sleeping bags, backpacks etc. A list of what you need can be found here.
