Geographical Information Systems

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is a subject that uses computer software for the collection, processing, storage and presentation of geographical data.

GIS may be used in various subject fields, especially those concerned with location-related information. Students will become proficient in using GIS in the subject areas they have previously studied, and they will also be able to implement GIS in organisations.

Career opportunities/Further studies

The study programme focuses on the use of GIS in industry, administration, teaching and research, both in Norway and abroad. It may form part of a Bachelor’s degree, subject to academic regulations. It may also be taken as a further educational programme by students with interdisciplinary study backgrounds, or as further study by employees in the public and private sectors.
