The year is divided into two semesters, Autumn and Spring semesters. They are approximately 17 weeks including an orientation week, an autumn or spring break and a final week of examinations. The autumn semester begins in week 34. The spring semester usually begins the second week in January and finishes in week 25.
Final exams are held in December and May/June. Holidays such as Christmas, Easter week, Whit Monday and Ascencion day. In addition the New Year's Day, the International Worker's Day and the Constitution Day (May 17th) are holidays.
The excecutive board is the highest authority at Telemark University College. The board is led by the TUC rector, who is elected from the academic staff members. The Board appoints the University College director.

Recognition procedures
Recognition of previous qualifications is sometimes done by TUC, sometimes by the national agency and sometimes by other parties. TUC may grant specific recognition, NOKUT may grant general recognition and other agencies may grant recognition of different skills for use in the labour market.

Credits
We have adopted the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) for all our programmes. One year full time study is equivalent to 60 credits. One semester (half year) full time study is equivalent to 30 credits.
Grading System
Transcripts
Exchange and study abroad students will be sent a transcript of records from Telemark University College after the completion of the exchange period.
Appeals
Appeals regarding evaluation of grounds for appeal regarding evaluation can be found in Act no. 15, 1st April 2005 relating to Universities and Colleges, paragraphs 5-2 and 5-3. Appeals regarding evaluation are processed by new evaluators. The appeal can result in a lower grade than the original.
Other appeals
The board’s appeals committee processes appeals in various study and administrative cases, for example cases pertaining to errors in exams, diplomas, approval of previous education, registration after deadline,access to exams, special requirements during exams, and admission to studies with direct admission and admission based on work experience. The appeals committee consists of five members, two of whom are students.
In addition the appeals committee, by special instruction from the Board, will also process the the following issues;
- Annullment of examinations on the grounds of cheating
- Annullment of recognition or acceptance of education from another institution, supported by fraudulent documentation
- Explusion on the grounds on seriously disruptive behaviour
- Explusion on the grounds on unacceptable conduct
- Explusion for cheating
- Explusion on the grounds of criminal conduct
- Explusions by recommendation from the Suitability Committee.
