International Collaboration
University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka and Telemark Univesity College are collaborating through the NOMA-programme.
NOMA is a programme for providing financial support to develop and run Master Degree Programmes in the South through collaboration between local and Norwegian Higher Education Institutions.
Master degree programmes that receives fundings through NOMA are developed and established at higher education institutions in the South through close collaboration with higher education institutions in Norway.
The master degree programmes are established in accordance with national needs to achieve sustainable capacity of institutions in the South in the long term and provide the national workforce with adequate qualifications within selected academic fields of study.
University of Moratuwa and Telemark Univesity College have built up a Master Degree Programme in the field of Sustainable Process Develpment. The programme is financed by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) and managed by SIU. Professor Rune Bakke from Faculty of Technology is the head of this project.
14 students from University of Moratuwa participate in this Master Programme as part-time-students. They more og less have full-time jobs and study on weekends and in their spare time. Professor Bernt Lie, Professor Dag Bjerketvedt and Professor Rune Bakke have been to Sri Lanka and given lecturers to these students.
4 students from University of Moratuwa have until now been given scholarships to do full-time masterstudies at Telemark University College. Three of these students will obtain a masterdegree in Energy and Environmental Technology, and one of the students will obtain a masterdegree in Process Technology.
A poster presented by P.G. Rathnasiri, Deshai Botheju and Rune Bakke from University of Moratuwa (UOM) and Telemark University College (TUC) won the best poster award at a European Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR) conference in Berlin. More information
