The Learning Environment Committee (LMU= Læringsmiljøutvalget in Norwegian) plays a central part in monitoring, developing and improving the learning environment and the education quality assurance work of Telemark University College (TUC).

The committee’s main objective is to ensure that the regulations given in § 4 – 3 of the Act Relating to Universities and University Colleges, paragraphs one and two are carried out. The LMU has the right to take part in:

• the planning and implementation of any issues related to the learning environment
• to follow closely the development of any questions regarding the safety or the welfare of the students.
• The LMU reports directly to the TUC Board, and submits an annual report on the university college’s learning environment work.

LMU has an equal number of members representing students and staff respectively, four permanent and four deputy members from each side. A representative of the Telemark Students’ Association may attend the meetings with the right to speak, and so may the main safety representative (HVO).
